Экспериментальное и теоретическое изучение взаимодействия электромагнитного излучения с шероховатыми планетными поверхностями.
Изучение химико-минералогических и геолого-морфологических свойств поверхностей Луны и планет по данным наземных наблюдений и космических экспериментов.
Изучение физических свойств астероидов, объектов пояса Койпера, комет, проблема астероидной опасности.
Служба Солнца, изучение активных процессов в солнечной хромосфере, космическая погода.
Наблюдения явления гравитационного линзирования квазаров галактиками и разработка методов повышения углового разрешения наземных телескопов.
Изучение внутреннего строения субзвезд, характеристик ближайших к Солнцу звезд, и строения Галактики.
Фундаментальная астрометрия,
создание инерциальной системы координат.
